Frequently Asked
Questions
How do I know if my foam needs replacing?
The usual signs are cushions that no longer spring back after you stand up, seating that feels like you're sinking toward the frame, uneven height between cushions, or having to push yourself up to get out of the chair. If you're unsure, send us a photo and tell us how it feels to sit on — we can usually tell from there.
Do you need to take my furniture away?
Not always. Straightforward jobs can be done in your home. More complex work — where cushions are sewn in, or the frame and webbing need attention — is done in our workshop. We'll let you know which applies when we quote so there are no surprises.
Is webbing and support replacement included in the price?
Yes. Where the webbing or support underneath has stretched or given way, replacing it is included in the per-seat price. There's no separate charge for it.
How long does foam replacement take?
In-home jobs are usually completed in a single visit. Workshop jobs depend on the complexity and the size of the piece — we'll give you a timeframe when we quote.
Can you replace foam if my cushions are sewn in and don't come off?
Yes. Fixed and sewn-in cushions can be opened up, refilled and closed again. It's more involved than a removable cushion, which is why this type of job is usually done in the workshop rather than in your home.
How long will the new foam last?
That depends on the density of the foam and how much the piece gets used, but properly specified foam should give you many years of comfortable use. We'll recommend a density based on how you use the furniture — a daily-use family sofa needs something different to a formal lounge chair.
Is replacing the foam worth it, or should I just buy a new sofa?
If the frame is solid and you're happy with the covering, replacing the foam is almost always the better value — you keep a piece you already like at a fraction of the cost of replacement. If the frame has gone or the covering is at the end of its life, we'll tell you honestly and talk you through the alternatives.
Do you replace feather and fibre filling as well as foam?
Yes. We can replace or top up feather and fibre-filled cushions, or convert them to foam if you'd prefer firmer support. We'll talk through the options and how each one will feel before we go ahead.
Not Sure What Your Furniture Needs?
Send us a photo and we'll tell you honestly — including if we think the work isn't worth doing. Free quotes, no obligation.
